BubbaFred, I am moved at this time of national tragedy to express my sincere sympathy for the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts and their families. ************** Thank you for your eloquent and intelligent views regarding the world we are about to enter. <<<OT>>> Ranting & Raving I never fail to be amazed by the behavior of some people. --- When I see someone whose speech/writing is full to overflowing with sneering personal insults & intentionally offensive hyperbole, I notice that it is almost a certainty that they see themselves as simply objectively presenting unpopular truths. --- How is it possible that anyone could believe that the way to inform / convince people of anything is to insult & belittle them while presenting as fact half-truths & exaggerations in a ranting bombast thick with name-calling & derision? --- I think it likely that some of the ideas recently brought up in the course of Ranting may have merit. But surely it works against having any idea considered objectively to have it presented in this manner. --- It is my observation that most people will give due consideration to almost any idea when it is presented properly. I.e.: By calmly laying out the facts & chains of reasoning that lead to the writers' conclusions. Without disparagement of the intelligence, morality, honesty etc of those who see things differently. ---Since this is clearly the most effective strategy for convincing others of the correctness of one's views, I am suspicious of behaviors which differ from it extremely. I suspect that such displays are often driven by internal compulsions in the writers which have little or nothing to do with the issues at hand. Such people are unlikely to be aware of this themselves, & see themselves as 'Voices Of Truth Speaking Out Courageously To The Ignorant Masses In The Land Of Evil' or somesuch thing, when actually they are just neurotics whose offensive behavior works against the causes & ideas they claim to support. I agree with others who have suggested that such posters Not be responded to. Perhaps they will take their ranting elsewhere. They are not here to discuss & debate differing points of view. They are here to vent pressures resulting from their personality disorders. It is a waste of our time to interact with them, imo. regards, diana
