A small bomb in the payload compartment, sabotage of the heat protective tiles before liftoff....lotsa ways that don't require missles. Apparently though, 10 minutes after it happenned we were treated to assurances that it couldn't possibly be due to terrorist acts, nosirree Bob! I'm not saying it was, but why the rush to judgement (especially with war with all of Islam looming, and an Israeli on board. The astronauts were indeed brave folk, and they deserve a full accounting, IMO....
