Not suggesting heat spike was anything other than the shuttle burning up / exploding upon re-entry.

The mere suggestion that terrorism might have had a role in this is crediting terrorists with far more than they are capable. And yes, the fact that America turns to fear of terrorism is demonstration that terror is still in our hearts. Terror is a very interesting thing. It spreads like cancer and is very hard to extinguish. So they get the windfall of new terror from something in which they had no role.
