Yeh. Like the bible.

Unfortunately many in the Arab world probably will celebrate this terrible disaster -- privately if not in public.

Certainly. And, of course, that instinct is not only rooted in good 'ole fashioned schadenfreud, but also in comparing the paltry U.S. space program with the monumental successes of that region's various space programs, which - as I understand it - have reached technological highs including the recent placement of a mouse into a bucket and its' subsequent hurling into the air.

Such is the hatred that Sharon, Bush, and his Likudnik neo-con handlers have brought about.

Given the post-9/11 celebrations, it's completely unsurprising that some folks, in their seemingly insatiable lust for blood, wouldn't distinguish between misfortune visited upon politicos vs. civilians.

That's okay, though, because since seeing footage of and reading about those spontaneous celebrations on September 11th, I no longer let the plight of many of those same peoples trouble my mind.

I confess that prior to that, at times, I did.

It also demonstrates that US power and technology (the latest false gods?) have limits -- as do all man made creations.

Was that news to you? Personally I think that large, creeping governments...not to mention the shameless, wholesale delegation of responsibility and freedom to them...are mankind's latest "false god," but your perspective and mileage may vary.

I feel sorry for the loss of the 7 astronaut lives on board.

On the other hand, I also learned (from the other poster) that the Israeli astronaut on board was the F-16 fighter pilot that led the raid that destroyed the Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981. It seems obvious that the mission of Space shuttle Columbia was also meant to symbolize the great cooperation between Israel and US governments on the war against Iraq.

Another writing on the wall for the endeavor?

A very powerful indictment of them then....
