the fuel is surely some nasty stuff

Liquid fuel & oxidizer. Probably very similar to same used in Titan II missiles. The fuel (unsymmetrical dimethyl hydrazine) and oxidizer (nitrogen tetroxide) combust when they meet spontaneously. Also, if inhaled or even with skin contact, can cause extreme health problems.
