Syncrude. We are in agreement on Crystallex but I'm not so sure that I agree entirely with your political conclusions. I assume you mean by "qualified" as "more acceptable to President Bush".

We both know that the US has never been happy with Chavez and his politics, but I don't agree that he will be easily displaced. Chavez may have socialist policies but was elected by a majority of the population in an apparently fair election, something that many more "right wing" leaders in many "free" countries cannot honestly claim. Ask Al Gore for his opinion if you don't believe me.

His major crime is of being an elected socialist in a country that is critical to the oil supply to the US at a time that the US is planning a war the major oil producing region of the world. There was no strike as we know it despite the North American press description of the trouble in Venezuala in those terms. It was a good old fashioned management "lock out" supported by the political opposition and some "unknown" external influence.

The politics of Venezuela is a problem for US companies, but gold is mined by international companies who don't have the same concerns as the US companies. Regardless of that I haven't seen the US controlled oil companies saying that they are leaving the oil in Venezuela permanently in the ground.

Personally I believe that gold is still in a bull market and despite some day to day fluctuations the direction of the POG is still bullish. Regardless of the low grade of Brisas at some price of gold it will be economic and I believe that time came when gold passes $350 an ounce.
