And you forget national defense and other strictly federal responsibilities that have no counterparts in states. The whole thing looks like we're teetering toward insolvency. Gov'ts? If they insist on spending more than they can afford for long enough, yes. National gov'ts do have an out: They inflate and devalue. And you know what that may mean? RAISING taxes.
