Space explorations have an incomprehensible side to them like mountain climbing. Because it's there! There is also a foreign policy or foreign affairs element that we can't ignore. I'm old enough to remember America's mood when the USSR shot up the very first Sputnik. It shook this country up good, I can tell you! We were scared of the Russians because they got a lousy little basket ball out into space before we did. We had to go them one better because they landed the first punch.

Just think now, after all this time, Russia and America have people in the same capsule out in space. The next shuttle flight MUST go because they are out there. No three year vacation to work out problems this time.

All this gives me faith that we can find peace in this world, even in the Middle East. Those poor beaten down misguided spirits will see that it is better to join with us than fly planes into our buildings and attack our embassies.
