SA's Gold Fields: Impact Of Fire On Output Unclear

JOHANNESBURG -(Dow Jones)- Gold Fields Ltd. , South Africa's second- largest gold producer, said Friday it is unclear how production at its flagship Driefontein mine will be affected after an underground fire killed four miners.

Driefontein produces about 1.2 million ounces of gold a year, more than a quarter of Gold Fields' total output.

Spokesman Willie Jacobsz said a fire broke out Thursday at seven shaft west which produces 4% to 5% of Driefontein's gold.
