As this subject is O.T. for the thread this will be my last comment.

A cost/benefit comparison must focus on health status, outcomes and quality of service. I don't have a ready reference to the data but Canada compares favourably to the U.S. in most areas.

If I interpret the general perception of Canadians correctly one of the greatest fears is a movement to the U.S. system. Health care in all countries is rationed by one method or another.
