Some of the stuff was still smoking when it landed.

There are literally 1000's of chemical composites built into a vessel of this type, and it's no telling what part you would be handling given the shape of it when it landed.

You have no idea what you are talking about with respect to toxicity or danger.

can you imagine the price they would bring at auction on ebay, ray?? Almost as much Im sure as you paid for the helmet that keeps the aliens from bombarding your skull with gamma rays!

It's also for liability purposes. Already loads of people have checked into hospitals claiming respiratory problems. Those same people will probably file lawsuits against the government. Imagine if they said don't touch the debris for investigatory purposes - that opens the door for jokers to handle the debris in the name of good samaritans, and then claim some sort of toxic tort because they touched a piece of the shuttle.

The government is incompetent and the media is brainless, but the American public is even more moronic.
