Currently we're working with governments who are by and large cooperating with our efforts at "police work" vis-a-vis al-Qaeda.

Do you somehow imagine the Iraqi government would similarly cooperate if we stated we just wanted to do a little "police work" re Saddam Hussein?

The word "cooperation" is the operative word if you're speaking about legal action across borders. Since Saddam *is* the government in question, in this case, it's your question that doesn't make any sense.

A preemptive war is a mighty big step for the US, and not to be taken the least bit lightly.

That's right. We have tried every method we can think of short of war to oust saddam. As Nadine as indicated, instead of asking posters on this board over and over "Why we don't do something else?" , why don't you tell us what you would do?
