I'm surprised that the latency can't be accommodated for in all but realtime two-way communications (voice, video).

its roughly 100,000 miles for a data request to get filled
You must be including copper and silicon time to get .8 sec.

The satellite is 36,000 km from the earth's center. The furthest place you can be from it would be at one of the poles, which is 6400 km from the earth's center and is at a right angle to the path from the earth's center to the satellite. So the distance to the satellite is
sqrt(36,000^2 + 6400^2)
or 36,600 km.

The speed of light is 300,000 km/sec, so the time for a round trip is

2 X 36,600/300,000

or 0.24 seconds.
