Some woman was on the radio saying how the deaths were Bush's fault because he wouldn't let them put an escape hatch in the Shuttle. With people like her around I'm edgy about leaving home.

These budgets belong to NASA. They have the ultimate responsibility to operate within a given budget. Either they decided it was safe or not. Anyone who has studied "group phsycology" know there is always a risk. For the same reason a airline crew flew a perfectly good L1011 into a Florida swamp while trying to repair a $0.10 landing gear lamp indicators. The detractors here have no clue of what they're talking about when they try to pin blame.
