<Americans with strong religious convictions should not be trusted>

Religious conviction can be used to justify almost any conceivable action. Certainly, people with deep Belief have done great good (mostly when they focus on the parts of their various Good Books about mercy, compassion, and forgiveness).

But.......those same Good Books (at least, those of the 3 patriarchal monotheisms) have parts about waging Holy War against the Other. Any leader who wants to go to war, needs an ideological rationale for his propagandists to use, and religion has, all too frequently, provided it.

I'm not scared by people who have Great Faith. I am scared by people who say, "God is whispering in my ear, and he's telling me to kill, kill, kill."

Hi Michael,

This subject is looking like too hot a potato to handle on this thread. It's also way off topic.
