A friend of mine from another country told me he was shocked to find that the "conservatives" in this country were not for conservation of nature. He had always assumed that is one of the things they would be passionate about. Another shocker for him was that they supported the death penalty. When told about these, his reactions was "Wow! Some conservatives!" It was almost like somebody telling him that up is down and down is up.

"Dont be paranoid about "wackos". If you mean environmentalists you're dealing with one right now, and I'm no wacko" Well at the least, you are il-informed, and at worst, a liar. You stated that Bush was paving the wa to cut down old growth Sequoias, and that is totally false. I consider many enviros to be wackos because they do not understand the issues and they resort to misleading information and tactics as you have done. "Environmentalists dont want to take away anything of yours" Bull-crap. They shut down millions of acres of land that the public used to be able to use (it is ours, right) so that the only way to view it or enjoy it is to walk to it. They want to take away my right to fish, hunt, ride motercycles and atv's, etc. etc. etc. The southern CA desert is a prime example. Feinstein and her cronies basically shut down the desert for public use. Total bull crap imo. "They also want to be a check and balance against industry" They used to be just that. Now they are so lawyered up they are actually shutting down the wilderness so NOBODY can enjoy it. They go on to private property and leave their stinking mess in the name of preservation, but they are really just trying to take away someones private investment that they do not like. It is terrorism in some cases. Spiked trees, burned up suv's, etc. "Environmentalism should be shared by everyone" It is. But unfortunately the whakos have taken the lead and are ruining it for private property owners and your average American that does not have 2 or 3 weeks to walk into areas he/she would like to see and enjoy. The whackos don't like humans, and think we ruin the environment just by enjoying it. "Even conservatives should be environmentalists" We are, but we are not whackos. We like to enjoy ourselves in the wilderness. We know that not everything we do wrecks the environment. We know that the virtual shut down of the logging industry has lead to dangerously over grown and fire prone forests. But of course you will take no responsibility for that, and in fact will blame level headed Americans who KNOW that the situation needs to be fixed. And you will do it by LYING about the intentions of these people and spreading mis-information about what they are trying to do. Again, a 30" redwood is NOT OLD GROWTH. So quit lying about it and discuss it rationally.
