All very much over my experience level - but I thank you very much for the description.

This is a great learning thread for Newbie options traders.As a newbie I'm accumulating some experience scars - but I've also learned of the great value.

One possibility, perhaps unlikely, is that this trade was not the complete transaction.

Perhaps it is paired with and NDX option trade or some futures contract, that creates a more complete picture such as some sort of cross-market arbitrage or calendar spread.
