o/t ["Slider, the Dessert Eagle .44 mags are kid's stuff."] Actually fwiw; terminal handgun ballistic's pretty much max out with a 9mm 147gr Ranger XTP JHP...don't even need the stereotypical .357 with fireballing 125JHP's, nor the noveau .10mm, 40 Cal's, .357 Sig's or even the venerable .45 acp - althought with modern non-hardball ammo it is also atop the terminal ballistic ladder with 230 gr Hydra-shok's, GoldDot's , Ranger JHP's etc. And yes; you can get a .50 AE Dessert Eagle, or a .454 Cassul Hand Cannon if you want to accelreate early on set arthritis in your hands & wrist... but, nothing else quite says hello like, or is soooooo damn pretty as a pair of Nickel Plated DE 44's ( in reality, I'm a Glockster #19/26)....but, I digress...as really all WE THE PEOPLE - really need; is more handgun laws to keep us safe... right (vbg) ? "Ride hard, shoot straight & speak the truth" ~ right Roe (vbg) ? PS: ... a true modern renaissance man must be equally comfortable with college football, geopolitics, the markets, fine wine and terminal ballistics.

Sharp, OT, I must regrettably inform you that the 50 cal is proven to cause mild brain trauma which if repeated can lead to serious brain damage. There are a couple of small published studes using brain MR findings I have seen in last 3 years or so. The bolt action available to those outside my whereabouts, ie, Sovereign Soviet Republik of Kalifornia is simply impossible to hold on a tripod and shoot repeatedly. If you get in that kind of jam as to need a 50 cal and you are not in the US armed services I suggest one consider my 4th dan aikijitsu sensei's advice and observation,ie, you are where you should NOT be. Slider, as to terminal ballistics I defer to Chairman Jeff who opines that the function of a pistol is to get you to your rifle is you are absent-minded enough to get that far from it. Hence I side with Chairman Jeff and have used religiously the old 1911 which I have pounded with hundreds of thousands of (reloaded) ammo over the last 40 years in a half dozen and a bit of pistols.(Christ that makes me old!). I don't even practice farther out than 15 yard targets, mostly at 10, FBI stats( I hope we can trust them with THAT at least) indicates most handgun encounters occur under 10 feet. Farther out than that and I want my M1A. FWIW thanks for the advice about pigs and hogs. I am throwing in the towel today on GG, NEM, and most of all CEF, way too high here and way to fast.
