With the temperatures and lack of air I wonder if they could get a glue to set up. There is also a problem with which shapes of tiles to bring along.

OTOH maybe they could take along an ablative type of patch similar to what they coated the bottoms of the early capsules with.

I am sure this lack of contingency influenced their thing just as the fact that it had happened before and the crew survived.

I think they ought to make the administrators take a trip in one of the shuttles and maybe these cozy decisions would be different!
