"That is what the "Hasemite Restoration" is all about. It was a Hasemite King that was disposed. :>)"

How about a return to pre-WW1 borders for all concerned. Of course that would leave the Jews in Europe so Israel wont be a problem. And the French would get Iraq? Am i right about that? Perhaps thats what Chirac is angling for? <g> mike

Yes, a Hashemite King was installed by the British in Iraq 1918 or so, with the breakup of the Ottoman empire. May as well go for a Pahlavi restoration in Iran too, while we're at it. I did a google search on "hashemite restoration", it's pretty amusing, a nice little tour of the warblogosphere. google.com

Note in particular:

(08-25-2002) One of the popular memes among bloggers over the past 11 months has been the notion of Hashemite Restoration. Recently, the learned author of The Closed Circle made the case for restoring the Hashemite kingdom in Iraq. But Claude Salhani argues that David Pryce-Jones and other such neo-colonialist thinkers are wrong.
