Of course not, Michael. We've debated this point to the point of exhaustion. Two main arguments are out there. What you are calling Intifada2 grew from the deep wells of simmering anger over Israeli settlement policies brought to a boil when Sharon stepped across the line. The second argument is that Sharon's act had nothing to do with it. In some sense, Arafat said something like, well we didn't get rid of the Israelis with peace negotiations so we'll try to do it with the second intifada.

It is not possible to settle that argument on this thread. If you wish to see folk dug in to positions, try reopening that one. It's not only a waste; it's like throwing the proverbial oil on troubled waters.

And will get us exactly nowhere should we spend even two more posts on it.
