I can almost guarantee you that Americans wouldn't have that same kind of patience. > Perhaps the Israelis could respond to suicide bomber attacks with explosions of comparable size [but maybe twice the size] in crowded Palestinian towns, shops and markets. As you say, Americans aren't so particular. They did a couple of VERY large explosions right there in the markets, with women, children, babies, men, young and old. It certainly put a stop to Japan's rampage through Asia. I can understand that with the Holocaust in living memory, they are very reluctant to adopt such barbaric eye for eye, red in tooth and claw methods, even in self-defence. When continuously pushed for another few decades, they might start to respond in kind [there have been the occasional equivalents by angry individual Jews, who are then gaoled]. Self-defence is the most basic action, coming before food, warmth, water, friends and family. Survival is number one. Even children are not always defended if death is certain for both. Survival is a powerful drive. DNA without powerful survival drive didn't escape the infinite array of challenges over the past billion years. It has been filtered out. Humans have the DNA to survive. Maybe suicide bombers are a self-limiting problem. I wonder how many they'll be able to supply. I suppose there's one [sucker] born every minute as they say. Ethics are a recent cultural construct to help us live together for mutual self-interest. Survival beats ethics when push comes to shove. Mqurice
