I'll chat with you about the Israeli Palestinian situation but I don't see it going much of anywhere. That is our conversation.

Your paragraph makes Sharon the good guy and some undesignated Palestinians (terrorists/radicals) the bad guys. My own formulation is that the spiral of violence gives more power to the extremists on both sides. On the Israeli side to the advocates of transfer or those contemplating long term occupation; on the Palestinian side of Hamas, the Jihad party (specific name escapes me as I type), and, possibly, Al Q.

As I just typed to Slacker, I see only two ways forward: one the spiral continues to the point of mutual exhaustion before the parties are likely to move back to the deal which has been on the table all along; or the Bush folk get very deeply involved. Since I don't see the latter happening, the only prospects I see are the former.
