(COMTEX)B: Greece and Turkey sign agreement to promote tourism
B: Greece and Turkey sign agreement to promote tourism

ATEHNS, Greece, Feb 05, 2003 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- Greece and Turkey
signed an agreement Wednesday to promote tourism in the Aegean Sea as part of an
effort to improve relations between the once hostile neighbors.

Greek Development Minister Akis Tsochadzopoulos and Turkish Tourism Minister
Guldal Aksit signed a low-level accord agreeing to look at the possibility of
increasing the number of ferry boat routes from Greece's Aegean Sea islands to
the Turkish coast.

They also agreed to find ways to promote all types of tourism between Greece and
Turkey and bolster cooperation between travel agents. The agreement adds to an
exiting tourism accord.

Greek and Turkish officials have signed nearly a dozen agreements over the past
three years on issues that include agriculture, energy, industry, trade,
transport and tourism.

Relations between the two countries have been steadily improving over the past
three and-a-half years, bolstered by a mutual outpouring of help following
killer earthquakes that struck both in 1999.
