The world is changing. Neither Germany nor France has to support a misguided American president's madness. And neither does the United Nations. I'd love to see a full vote of the UN, not just the Security Council.

So often I hear rightwingers bragging about American foreign aid. I think recent statistics on this aid--anyone know 'em?--show that we do less than we pretend we do. In fact, I think the historical record shows us good at arming other nations or bolstering arms building industries in other nations, and so forth; but we're less than candid, less than effective in helping to feed people and in human health. This said, notwitstanding Bush's recent promise everybody everything state of the union speech.

If this American aid is so lucrative and so on point, how come we get so many contrary votes from the United Nations?

The only nations Bush has in his war pocket are ones he's so easily been able to buy off using America's wealth, much like a developer wanting to build in a small town and who blows into town and buys off local authorities to get the building approvals.
