I will answer as succinctly as possible, but in doing so, risk over-simplifying enormously complicated questions that no one yet has found an answer for.1. How can we prevent a madman like Saddam Hussien from building nuclear, biological or chemical weapons? A good start would be for us and our allies to stop selling him the components necessary to do so.2. How can we prevent him from using them directly, or via clandestine terrorist means to murder millions of people in N.Y. City? Wihout the raw materials, he would have no WMD. Protecting our ports of entry should naturally continue, (I am not against profiling young Arabic males) as well as the rooting out of Al Qaeda operatives.3. How can we ensure he won't obtain WMD and launch them via scud missiles at Israel, Kuwaiit or any other nation? Why would he, knowing that to do so would mean total destruction of Iraq? What would be his motivation?4. How can we end (or seriously reduce) the human rights violations in Iraq? By setting an example ourselves and by applying high standards of behavior in our dealings with all nations. Stop treating the enemy of our enemy as our friend.5. How can we build the climate around which middle eastern countries move toward democracy? As tempting as this goal is, it is really none of our business.6. How can we ensure a steady flow of oil from the middle east continues to be the world's engine of economic growth? I believe we should harness good ol' Yankee ingenuity to greatly reduce our reliance on oil.7. How can we maintain the credibility of the United Nations, while allowing Saddam to continue ignoring U.N. resolution after resolution? Insist that ALL nations comply with UN resolutions, even those that are non-binding. Cut off foreign aid to persistent violators.8. How can we help build a climate of safety for the American people against terrorists, if we allow them to have a safe haven in Iraq under Saddam's rule? We would first need to prove that link. Historically, Al Qaeda has wanted nothing to do with Saddam. 9. How do we continue building a world safe from the tyranny of terrorists if Saddam is allowed to obtain WMD? See #1.10. How can we ensure world peace, when a region vital to the world is under constant alarm and threatened by a madman? Saddam is not mad enough to endanger his rule by overtly aggressive acts, IMHO.
