Have you looked into some of the wine discounters like Trader Joes or BevMo lately, because I have seen prices come down dramatically- maybe not for the really high end stuff though. I know Rosemount wines from Australia are definitely cheaper than they were... those used to be $12 and are now in the $8's.

This year's California harvest is expected to produce as many as 3.3 million tons of wine grapes, up 8% from last year. The glut of grapes, caused by over-planting during the boom times of the 1990s, combined with an uncertain economy could spell disaster for the wine industry.

It's Economics 101: too much supply, not enough demand. A cutback in consumer spending has hit the high-end wine market especially hard.

Consumers can afford to buy this wine by the case because the bulk price for California wine has plunged amid the grape-glut.

"Just like the stock market in the early '90s, grape growing exploded," said wine industry economist and consultant Jon Fredrikson. "From 1992 to 2001, the industry in California added 240,000 new acres, a 72 percent increase ... You can only use so much."
