you think its wise that Ari Fleicher overtly discusses assassination in press conferences? I mean come on this is just common sense. People in the US consider Bush a down home, plain talking kind of guy but to the rest of the world he seems like some kind of trigger happy kid. Did you read what the CEOs said their reception was in Davos?

You know, I think there is something to presidents behaving stupidly that does more damage than bad turns on key strategic events. In this case Bush may be tactically doing everything correctly wrt Iraq, but the press behind the situation... the Ari Fleicher press conferences etc. is terrible. Thats what is so difficult for me.

A skilled diplomat would have let the inspections process run its course before sending troops, for one thing. As it stands the EU feels like the process is a kangaroo court. And we have ruined what little respect there was out there for Nato, as you know many countries feel Nato is a puppet of the US... well now it is even worse because it appears to be *useless*... there goes that institution.

Powell is the guy who seems to be able to manage the diplomatic tasks of being a US president. Bush needs some charm school- badly.
