The Zarqawi connection. Zarqawi was also implicated by the Jordanians with the recent hit on an American Diplomat working in Jordan. Powell seemed real pissed and upset about this.

Powell Alleges Iraq Harbors Group Linked to Al Qaeda

NITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States Wednesday alleged that members of a group associated with al Qaeda had been operating freely in Baghdad for eight months.

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell told the U.N. Security Council, "Iraq harbors a deadly terrorist network headed by Abu Musab Zarqawi, an associate and collaborator of Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda lieutenant."

Zarqawi is connected with Ansar al-Islam, a group that operates in northern Iraq outside the control of Baghdad.

But Powell said Zarqawi spent two months in Baghdad in May and June 2002 for medical treatment and that some members of his groups were now based in the Iraqi capital.
