I don't believe the analogy is appropriate. If you as a government destroy weapons per an agreement, there is first a paper trail. I am sure we have plenty of proof we destroyed x number of missles as per agreements with russia for example. Even in the case you lost the gun, surely you would report it as such at the first opportunity lending your argument at least some credibility.

not intended as a flame... but...

"justice" in the third world, is FAR, FAR different than it is here...

Saddam is counting on the US playing this... innocent until proven guilty game...

having said that... I am not for an all out war... but I support whatever covert operations are needed to get rid of the man and his weapons.

the only positive thing i can see of all this is showing the world how useless and irrelevant the UN is becoming (if it ever was 'relevant" )

and... i still think that the US wants and all out war with IRAQ so they can control its oil... that is why they are seeking the UN's "blessing", remove oil... and Iraq would have been already erased....

remember Granada and Panama ? they raided them both (and even captured NOriega LOL !!)... I do not remember the US going meekly to the UN and asking for "permission"

what the US ask permission to the UN to get rid of this cockroaches ? ho ho ho not a chance... so why now.. redemption ? ... more ho ho ho....
