Bill, I'm in sales and my income went down more than 3X more than the drug salesman. I'm sure as heck not looking to down size. Comes to show how strapped people are. I can still live on half what I currently make just from my job not including market gains.

This is a story that is being repeated right across the country on a daily basis. It is also the basis for my belief that investors who think the consumer can carry the economy today are going to be wasted.

As noted earlier, an economy responds to a linear lay-off curve in a logarithmic way. At first, the lay-offs are more or less ignored, but as they continue, the public becomes very fearful and simply cuts back on discretionary spending. We are well past the "cross-over" point on these two curves.
