War is just the "excuse of the day". Other "explanations" during this bear-market include "only dot-com stocks can go down" to "only tech stocks will go down" to "stocks will go up after the Presidential election crisis is resolved" to "stocks will go up after the interest-rates are cut" to "stocks will go up after the Enron/Worldcom/Tyco crisis blows over"...

Now, it is "stocks will go up after the war with Iraq is over". New excuse, but same old motive -- to sell stocks to gullible people.

I agree. We need to slash spending on entitlements.

Dear Chris: Unemployment HUGE, hmmm you must be very young. I remember a time when all economists said it would be IMPOSSIBLE to reduce unemployment BELOW 6% due to mobility of workers, others just plain lazy etc etc. Seems to me the BUBBLE we had up to couple years ago was the abhoration, not todays unemployment rate. jdn
