Disaster? The Columbia shuttle crash was a disaster. A 5% drop in XAU after a 4% rise the previous day is no disaster.

Gold is still $50 an ounce higher than it was six months ago. That can only be a positive for miners if this level in gold is maintained. The market is not convinced that gold will hold, but if it does, miners are headed higher.

today was a disaster for the gold stocks. how can you be blind to that?

All I did was ask a simple question.
I didn't comment once about the price action of POG or the miners.
Why you assume I am blind of a 4-6% over all decrease is beyond me.
But for the case, looking through my list, I do notice a fair number of them that closed higher than yesterday's low.
Doesn't mean it won't happen tomorrow.
They most likely will.

So your proclaimed disaster that was today wasn't in the 5% or so decrease in prices
But rather what might be in store down the road a bit.

I don't know what your stance is on POG, if you think this longer term bull run is over or not.
I don't

But I could see it trend lower for a while.
That said, here's a list of some I would be looking at to be on the short side until the funk settles and we begin trending up again
finance.yahoo.com

I even took it one step further and checked on the short interest provided by Yahoo!
Broken down from the above list
it goes something like this

stock short interest % of float last months short#
ASA 737K 8.2% 402K
RANGY 9K 0.2% 17K
SSRI 738K 2% 783K
PD 4.71M 6% 4.22M
KGC 5.71M 6.4% 4.89M
GLG 3.22M 3.2% 2.54M
FCX 11.9M 10.2% 11.5M
VGZ 570K 7.6% 212K

Oh, you can add BGO and MNG at least to the list.

If the "disaster" scene you are seeing will last perhaps a month, 25% or so declines would be in order-
But likely buying opportunities also IMO.

Of course if you think POG is headed to sub 250, I say short every one of them to zero.

P.S. Best to double check any numbers of interest I posted above as it's late and I'm half alseep.

PPS>
I am long small positions in BGO MNG and GFI.
I sold some of those shares about a week ago
As well as some physical.
Right now I still regret selling the coins.
