Thousands of Russian soldiers have died there and they are still dying. This despite the capture and leveling of the capital, Grozny. Now granted that the Russian army is not up to US standards, but they are not exactly slouches either. Will US soldiers by dying in Iraq years from now if Bush invades. Something to think about. Chechnya: Russian checkpoint destroyed 2003-02-05 15:01:31 Kavkaz 5 February 2003 A saboteur group of Chechen soldiers drove up to a Russian checkpoint on the outskirts of Shali south east Cehchnya, on Saturday 1 February 2003, opening fire on it using grenade launchers and automatic guns. According to the Chechen resistance, six invaders were killed and eight others injured as a result of this combat action. Russian military sources admitted one fatality and three injured soldiers. The Chechen resistance said it targeted the checkpoint because it is operating as a terrorist launchpad with soldiers terrorising peaceful inhabitants. Several men have disappeared without trace after being detained here. The Chechen resistance has also reported attacking another Russian checkpoint, this time in in the Zavodskoi district of Grozny on Sunday afternoon, killing one invader and injuring two more. Also on Sunday, a Chechen saboteur party blew up a UAZ jeep carrying four Russian special service troops in Chernoreche settlement. All four aggressors obtained serious injuries. The press service of military committee “Madzhlisul Shura” of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria has also reported military clashes between a Chechen reconnaissance group and Russian commandos on Saturday between the populated areas of Ulus-Kert and Duba-Yourt, located at the entrance to the Argun Gorge in southern Chechnya. According to Chechen sources, they lost three mujahideen, while eight aggressors were killed. Losses from the Russian side may be more, since about a dozen injured invaders are in critical condition. During the combat Russian forces are reported to have killed between three to five civilians who were returning home to Duba–Yourt village.
