So far, I think that the oil argument is plausible, but kindly share information that would lead to that conclusion.

Probably the best information would be recent past wars of the US. Did we exploit the natural resources of the nations we fought against? Korea? Afghanistan? Viet Nam? Germany and Japan? The Phillipines and Cuba? The usual manner that the US "exploits" is by investment. The problem you have is that investment is usually encouraged and welcomed by developing nations. Investment, as cho points out, is what france has done in Iraq. Those exploitative frogs!
