09:49 ET BEAS BEA Systems facing open source challenge? (10.25 -0.85)
Hearing that research firm Fechtor Detwiler wrote this morning that the threat of open source software in the application server space has arrived, as JBoss has replaced BEAS at GE Supply; JBoss is free, open source application server software, and JBoss LLC is a private company offering service for JBoss software. Fechtor says that two other large GE divisions are qualifying JBoss for likely adoption given its cost savings versus BEAS.

10:04 ET BEAS BEA Systems defended by Goldman (10.41 -0.68) -- Update --
Hearing that Goldman Sachs just came out in defense of BEAS; does not believe that GE will completely eliminate BEAS and notes that many big firms use some open source software (see 9:49 comment for more).
