What is new is the millions of people in China who form the basis of a rapidly growing, well-educated middle class. What is new is the political environment in which these well-educated people can have a good life -- one that uninformed Americans cannot reconcile with their static view of what "China" is and who Chinese people are becoming. You pander to meaningless stereotypes because you do not know any better -- and you are entitled to keep a completely closed mind on the subject and cling to your "knowledge" of China. Bill knows all about China because somebody in Hong Kong gave him a ride in a Rolls 20 years ago -- he might not know that foreigners in Hong Kong at all levels of business were given rides in a Rolls in the old days because it made them feel "special". I really laughed till it hurt when he announced that he had ridden in a Rolls in Hong Kong -- him and every assistant underwear buyer form Sears. As for you, I doubt you have even done that. You just conjure up the ugliest vision you can think of and assume it is true. Be my guest.
