Re: Iraq War:

So I was watchin TV, America's national network (CNN), and there was this guy, a Republican Rep I think, who said when the war starts, the Iraqui populace will be throwin roses at their feet!! It isn't a war, but a LIBERATION!!!

Those Army guys must be the luckiest in the world!

On a more sober note: Competitive Devaluation continuing. Euroland has just lowered their interest rate.

1. USA
2. JAPAN

Hey Jim:
In an effort to come up with the worst case scenerio for the POG I have been contemplating the following situation:

Assuming we end up at war with Iraq and (hoping) that it goes quickly and favorably for the US. And that we end up with the Iraqi oil fields sustaining little damage thus securing a substantial flow of reasonably priced oil.

I've been thinking that this outcome would:

1. Take much power away from the Islamic oil exporters and thus the gold dinar

2. Strengthen the dollar and forestall (temprorarily) remonetization efforts here in the US

3. Allow the US to extend it's CA deficit (8%??)

4. And basically allow the US to keep the economic charade going

What impact do you think that this might have on the success of the remonetization of gold (USD cover clause and/or the Gold Dinar) and ultimately the price of gold?

I think that eventually the K-wave winter will triumph and we will have to take our medication. Hopefully, we won't be terminally ill when that time comes.

This has been on my mind for several days and I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks,
John
