I very much agree with you on this one ... AMD was very slow on recognizing
the inherent process issues with SOI and LowK. With LowK for example,
AMD cannot just switch the dielectric material in the backend without paying
a performance penalty. The difference between LowK and FSG is about 15%->20%
higher capacitance (for FSG) which will give a performance decrease.

This means one of three things:

1) AMD just takes the performance hit and then gets lower ASP's ... Not good, IMHO.
2) AMD redesigns the chip (if possible) to improve speed paths and thus
re-gain lost performance ... This would delay them by years.
3) AMD re-develops the process to "speed up the FET's" to compensate for
the higher capacitance ... This might only be a one year project. Also not good, IMHO.
