tuck,

For quite a time now, shorting biotechs has not been risky. CEPH jumping like this after bad (albeit expected) news puts some of the risk back into the shorters' equation.

SCIO seems to be shrugging off its own bear attack as well - once the reason for the short-term decline was revealed (an abstract with a negative-sounding title) the stock has been strong.

In the cases of both CEPH and SCIO, the major brokerage firms jumped in with support - also something that has been lacking for a while.

Bottom line is that I feel a firmer underlying tone in the biotechs. Won't help much if the overall market cracks, though.
