And you would be sadly mistaken. The Journal's Marc Kaufman is an excellent reporter with long experience covering conflicts in the region and elsewhere. Not that you'll take my advice, but I would suggest you read his reports. M2

Resounding success back then, when it was the focus and aerial bombing could make a difference....now the guerilla warfare will slowly erode that advantage, esp if a new front opens up in Iraq. Iraq would be easier to conquer though. The Arabs are very unlike the Afghanis in every conceivable way even though the American media would like to club them all together and paint them with a single brush...

Russians had felt the same sense of victory in their first year at Afghanistan....

There are many rounds to come....Afghanis aren't regular warriers, sad to say. Neither is their terrain regular terrain, it isn't meant for conventional warfare. Their warring strategies are different...

Unfortunately, the verdict is still out on Round 2, 3...etc.

Afghani Pathans and Nepalese Gurkha's are very difficult to beat in ground combat. To this day, Britain's Gurkha battalion is the most ferocious of its ground forces.

I've lived with the Americans, British, Afghanis, Gorkhas and the Arabs in various parts of the world, of coure this is JMHO and occasionally, I'm known to be wrong. <smile>

You have a son in the forces, and two nephews - right ? I hope they are safe.
