Just tried to short CEF and failed to do so. No explanation given by the Quick and Reilly online service, but I am sure borrowing those shares are way beyond what they might have in their inventory or be able to borrow easily.

Sorry but that's BS -- all you owned was a peice of paper akin to some Central Banks "silver certificates." Is it redeemable, and if it was, would you trust them to keep the ratio the same as when you bought.

I say again -- CEF is trash.
