It's painful for many people, myself included, and not just those who live in the US. The Americans, in America, like to think they are different and are apart from rest of the world but, to a lesser or greater extent as result of American influence throughout our lives, I would say we are all Americans.

The truth is that, through their money, movies, TV, radio, music, internet, literature, politics, military influence, financial power, scientific advances, technology, engineering, sociology etc, etc they made us like* them --- and now they don't like it when we criticize them!

* more than one meaning.
