Sparing calamities, a takeover of Iraqi oil may spare some of our pristine wildlands from the oil companies drilling. If it doesn't I personally will be livid at Bush. Iraq has enough oil to fill the void if at the same time we gradually get onto a hydrogen cleaner energy economy. Bush made a big speech about hydrogen today. Kerry will make it an even bigger issue, probably proposing ten times the funding, maybe even twenty or thirty times. In the longrun it's a terrific investment. Now that Bush has admitted this Kerry cannot be attacked (like Bush attacked and mocked Gore for promoting clean energy) for pushing it even harder. That said, Bush just tried to wwipe Kerry's issue there, but in such a minor way it will still be a major difference in policy between them. Clinton had about the same level of hydrogen funding and we got almost nothing for our money. We need a major-major commitment or all we'll get will be concept cars and photo ops.
