More Than 10 Cellphone Makers License Access's Multimedia Messaging Solutions

Tokyo (JCNN) - Access (TSE: 4813), a global provider of integrated data platforms and Internet access technologies for the mobile communications market, announced February 5 that more than ten cellular handset makers have adopted the company's multimedia messaging software.

The manufacturers include Samsung Electronics and LG, both of Korea, and Motorola of the US. The companies will embed the Access solutions on cellphones that they supply to China Unicom, China's No. 2 telecom operator.

The partnership agreement that the Chinese company teleco signed with Access in August 2002 called for Access's subsidiary, Access China, to sign a software licensing agreement with each of the handset vendors.

The software is based on "NetFront," Access's proven digital appliance browser in the Japanese and European markets, "Access MMS Client," a multimedia messaging service client application, and mobile IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) technology.

The Access solutions will help China Unicom offer multimedia mail services on the CDMA2000 1x network that it plans to launch commercially within a few months.
