I agree about Saudi and Kuwait, but UAE is the most independent and rationally thinking state in the entire middle east. It usually stays out of regional politics because Abu Dhabi and Dubai have strong economies and can afford to discard Saudi influences.....

However, the other emirates are supported by charities from Saudi, and so the council majority sometimes leans towards US thru Saudi intervention. I wouldn't call them stooges though. They co-operate with any country that seeks co-operation. A pretty forward thinking country i must say. Wish there were more like it. Most Moslems don't like UAE, Bahrain and Oman because diversity and tolerance is accepted.....Sheikh Rashid's <Ruler of Dubai> wet nurse was a Hindu woman and so he's pretty tolerant of other religions. The ruler of Oman <i forget his name> was helped by Hindu families when he overthrew his father, they saveed his life....and won his heart-he is pretty tolerant too...

Bahrain and Oman are few others that maintain their individuality pretty well....
