Japanese statistics for January are out....

tca.or.jp

The increase in W-CDMA handset sales doesnt really show up in the January figures....only 2,600 hundred new subs for FOMA. Either churn is incredibally high, new handset sales are going to previous FOMA customers or a substantial number of sales came after Feb. 1st. Any way you look at it....the number of new subs is disappointing.

KDDI added 639,000 1x subscribers....and 115,000 total Au subscribers. J-Phone and Docomo added 133,400 and 159,000 subscribers respectively.

To a certain extent, it seems like KDDI's momentum has been blunted. This might simply be due to the fact that they havent been cutting handset prices as aggresively as previously...it is tough to tell. Hopefully, the new BREW models will spark sales once again.
