-- U.S. Officials Warn of Higher Terror Attack Level --

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top U.S. administration officials
are likely to recommend to President Bush on Friday that the
nation's color-coded threat assessment be raised to the second
highest level on the grounds that they see a higher risk of
terror attacks, officials said.

Top officials were meeting with Bush on Friday, they said.
One official, citing "more credible terrorist threats
corroborated by multiple intelligence sources," said they were
"likely to recommend" that the threat assessment be raised.

The last increase in the level, to orange from yellow, was
on Sept. 10, 2002, right before the anniversary of the Sept.
11, 2001, hijacked plane attacks on the World Trade Center and
the Pentagon. It was lowered two weeks later.

Yellow, the middle of a five color range, means a
"significant" risk and orange means a "high" risk of terrorist
attack. Red represents a "severe" risk.
