re: Unfortunately, the Gulf of Tompkin

I believe that was the Gulf of Tonkin resolution:

Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joint Resolution of Congress
H.J. RES 1145 August 7, 1964
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

That the Congress approves and supports the determination of the President, as Commander in Chief, to take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression.

Section 2. The United States regards as vital to its national interest and to world peace the maintenance of international peace and security in southeast Asia. Consonant with the Constitution of the United States and the Charter of the United Nations and in accordance with its obligations under the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty, the United States is, therefore, prepared, as the President determines, to take all necessary steps, including the use of armed force, to assist any member or protocol state of the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty requesting assistance in defense of its freedom.

Section 3. This resolution shall expire when the President shall determine that the peace and security of the area is reasonably assured by international conditions created by action of the United Nations or otherwise, except that it may be terminated earlier by concurrent resolution of the Congress.

Since the U.S. is in material breach of 1441, it needs to be replaced anyway.

Geeze TP....at least you're consistently non-consistent.

If the Bush team were as dishonest and unprincipled as we came to expect of the last Admin, this new terror alert would have elevated to FULL BLAST(for theater use only)....milk it for all it was worth, etc.

The Bush Admin could have done that. They could have shown fake pictures, clearly, just like the missile crisis in Cuba...the technology has been there for a long time. Why didn't they? Maybe you'd care to explain why.

You just don't get it, do you???? This is a serious situation, and it doesn't matter WHO or WHAT political party is in charge. It is illegal for the Administration, ALL 3 parts of it....NOT to do their utmost to defend America. You do know that, don't you?

The entire "so called anti-War" group will do their utmost to try to blame the Government (again and again) if something DOES happen. Won't you?

I'm anti war too, if there is a way out of that solution, BTW. But what would that solution be? The last 12 years shows what inaction has accomplished, hasn't it?

However, I KNOW that I am not privy to all the Intelligence our Country has....and I am smart enough to believe they are doing the right thing.

Maybe what should happen is that the Bush Administration should now sit on their hands....
wait >>
and wait>>>
and wait>>>>
for all sorts of additional UN resolutions/proclamations/and other meaningless, toothless pieces of paper......Perhaps that is your answer.

Let us know all the names and addresses of those folks who believe this is the best idea....In case any of us are left after being attacked again, we'll want to know who to sue for encouraging the terrorists that they are free to rampage all they want and to harm the Americans (as well as the world's citizens) who don't think the way you/they do.

And YES, I do have MANY people in my family, and ancestors, who have died for the right and privilege of all American citizens to speak their mind.

Wonder if you have banned any of those who are challenging your opinion here? TWT, won't it???

You said:
>>>>>I'm a bit concerned this new elevated terror alert is part of a more grandiose hawk strategy>>>>>>>>>>

<<<<<<<As the stage is set, Bush now has a primetime opportunity for America to claim it can't wait for a second UN resolution, to claim its forces were attacked by Iraq and that America urgently needs to begin the war, this after Blix and El Baradei leave Iraq. Who knows, maybe the Blix-El Baradei visit isn't what it's publicly made out to be, that actually this visit will enable them to tip the over UN inspection team that it's time to get out of Dodge.>>>>>>>
