Cho, there are times when war is the best course of action. Given that I have chosen a military strategist's name as my moniker, it should be obvious that I agree with this stance. However, every great military book that I have read, emphasizes that war is a failure of government and shows the politicians' incompetence. For example, Sun Tzu's principle is that "The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting." This is an understanding that is missing from Washington.

I would have more faith in your optimistic opinion, if in fact I had seen the smallest move towards taking responsibility for our past actions. Where was the hearing into why CIA blindly supported the Taliban and undermined the Northern Alliance? Who looked into seeing why one of US' greatest allies in the Middle East, namely Iran, was transformed into a sea of anger that saw US as the Great Satan? When was a consideration for what US policies did in East Timor or Latin America? Why are the same people who made those horrendous mistakes still in Washington?

I will begin to believe in the optimistic view you subscribe to when I begin to see a change for the better in Washington and a willingness to take responsibility for past actions.

In the short term, Iraq will be free of Saddam and that is a debatable but possibly a better thing for the people of Iraq. In the long term will be a disaster for the entire region and the United States.
